Production milestone: First batch of Atlantic salmon showing encouraging performance at an average of 63 grams

Proximar Seafood’s first batch of Atlantic salmon, inserted October 2022, is growing well and better than expected. The average weight last week was 63 grams, and the fish seems to be thriving in the company’s Mt. Fuji facility outside Tokyo in Japan.

“It is very exciting to see the fish growing well in our new facility. The weekly development and steady growth are reassuring, proving our good growth conditions and fish welfare,” says Dharma Rajeswaran, COO at Proximar.

The company commenced production of Atlantic salmon at its new production facility at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan in October 2022. New batches of eggs are inserted on a monthly basis, currently eight tanks are filled with fish in the nursery department. The water quality is continuously measured, showing stable and good growth conditions for the fish.

“We are weighing the fish on a weekly basis, and see the performance steadily improving as we are fine-tuning and gaining the experience with the AquaMaof technology and equipment. In parallel, with the introduction of new batches, we experience continuously better performance which is a very encouraging sign.” continues Rajeswaran.

Approaching completion of civil works

The construction works for the grow out building (PSG) will be completed in the third quarter of 2023,and the grow out department should be ready to receive the first batch. This will mark another important milestone for Proximar.

“I am very pleased to see the fish performance. We have a very promising production team in place, and it is truly encouraging to see the high dedication from everyone. We are still in the process of recruiting new colleagues, and we are continuing to add highly qualified people to our team. I am also very glad that the construction works are in the final stage and to be completed in a short while. Then we are able to focus even more on production” says Joachim Nielsen, CEO of Proximar Seafood AS.

In June the installation of the production tanks was completed, and in July the concrete floors were finished. Currently there are electrical installations ongoing inside the building, together with installation works of the biomedia for the sedimentation tanks and biofilter by AquaMaof.
